چکیده

Microbes are present in every environmental niche and live in close association with humans and each other. Members of these communities include bacteria, archaea, viruses, fungi, and protists. In the environment, microbes perform various roles and are essential in agriculture and food production. In humans and animals, microbes provide protection against foreign invaders, educate and stimulate the immune response, produce antimicrobials, aid in digestion, and produce vitamins, among a host of other functions. In the last decade, researchers have actively investigated the impact of microbes and their gene products in human health and disease. This field of research is defined as the human microbiome, which is the totality of the microbes and their genes in and on the human body. To better understand the impact of microbes on health and disease, multiple body sites have been investigated, including skin, lungs, the nasal passage, the oral cavity, and the gastrointestinal and urogenital tracts. The results of these studies have revealed that each body site is home to a unique microbial community. Shifts in microbial communities can result from multiple factors, including environment, genetic variation, lifestyle and hygienic factors, and the immune system, and have been associated with many diseases.

Human Microbiome

Humans are almost identical in their genetic pattern, but the slight differences in our DNA lead to remarkable phenotypic variation among the human population. There are a variety of microbial communities and their genes (microbiomes) in the human body that play an essential role in human health and disease. The microbes inhabiting our bodies is quite a bit more variable, with only a third of i...

A Review of The Role of The Microbiome on Immune Responses and Its Association With Cystic Fibrosis

In recent years, the microbiome has been recognized as a key regulator of immune responses. Evidence suggests that changes in the microbiome can lead to chronic disease and even exacerbation of the disease. Impairment of innate immunity resulting from microbial incompatibility may worsen host susceptibility to infection and exacerbate chronic lung diseases. Specific microbes play a key role in ...

Environment and host species shape the skin microbiome of captive neotropical bats

BACKGROUND A wide range of microorganisms inhabit animal skin. This microbial community (microbiome) plays an important role in host defense against pathogens and disease. Bats (Chiroptera: Mammalia) are an ecologically and evolutionarily diversified group with a relatively unexplored skin microbiome. The bat skin microbiome could play a role in disease resistance, for example, to white nose sy...

Isolation and characterization of bacteria from the lesion of juvenile sea cucumber Holothuria scabra (Jaeger, 1938) with symptom of skin ulceration disease

Echinoderm diseases have attracted little interest in contrast to the other commercial marine organisms. This study reports the pathogenesis pattern of juvenile Holothuria scabra. 11 pure bacteria were isolated from lesions of juvenile H. scabra with the symptoms of skin ulceration disease. Phylogenetic identification based on 16S rRNA gene sequences analysis revealed that they belonged to the ...
